The seat Pauline Hanson contested in 1998. (She won neighbouring Oxley in 1996.) She actually won the primary vote comfortably with 36 percent, but Labor preferences gave Thompson an easy victory.

This term's redistribution cut Thompson's margin from 8.7 to 6.7%.
