Michael Lee, touted future leader,
held Dobell for Labor from its proclamation in 1984 until 2001.
Lee came within a whisker of losing in 1996
(the graph shows he would have under today's boundaries) and
finally did in 2001. He lost a few percent off his margin in a 1992
redistribution and another half a percent in 1999; if 1998 boundaries
remained intact Lee probably would too.
A mixture of outer suburban Sydney and mid-Coast
NSW, it's the sort of seat that probably won't go back to the ALP until
its NSW vote improves.
