With Gallus retiring, and the Liberal margin shaved by .9 percent in redistribution, if the contest is reasonably close - say like the 1998 or 2001 results - Labor stands a good chance of taking this one.

Gallus was Howard's shadow Aboriginal Affairs minister but missed out to John Herron upon taking office in '96.
