Bellwether seat
has gone to whoever won government at every election since its creation in 1949. Redistributed
during the last term and declared by psephologist Malcolm Mackerras to
be "unwinnable for the Liberal Party".
Actually, the
AEC's notional Labor majority of 1.7% going into 2001 (which
retrospectively turns '98 into an ALP win on graph) is a bit iffy.
But no question
about the result: a big government swing in NSW was helped along in this
seat by the Liberal's star candidate, marathon runner Pat Farmer.
Now, like
neighbouring Lindsay and Hughes,
solid outer western Sydney Liberal territory.
