Anthony is third in the family to occupy Richmond; his father was Country/National Party Leader. National Party heartland went surprisingly Labor in 1990, tossing out then party leader Charles Blunt.

A large ex-Sydney influx to places like Byron Bay and Mullumbimby explains much of the change of status.

In counting for that 1990 poll, Independent Helen Caldicott looked the winner for a few days; her primary vote eventually dropped behind Labor's Neville Newell who, with her preferences, defeated Blunt.

Newell won again in 1993 (in big NSW swing to Labor), but back in National hands since 1996 and looking difficult to shift back to ALP this side of a Labor win.
