Dear Psephs

The Tiser today (Page 2) has its first Boothby poll.  It gives the Libs' Andrew  Southcott a 56-44 lead over Labor's Chloe Fox - a one-point swing to Labor since the 2001 election.  The poll is based on interviews with 425 Boothby voters on Wednesday night (Sept 8) - after the release of Labor's tax and family policy but before the Jakarta bomb, the 'debate' and today's reported abductions in Iraq.

Primary figures: Liberal 47, Labor 25, Greens 11, Democrats 5, One Nation 1, Family First 2, Informal/none 1, undecided 8.

Southcott has all the advantages on an entrenched sitting member and has saturated the electorate with bumff.  Fox has few resources but has had some useful publicity in the media.

Fox is supported equally by men and women (25%).  Southcott has more male support (51%) than female (43%).

Cheers
