Northern Territory electionEmail from Malcolm Mackerras 18 August 2008Further to this: "Dear Peter
In my recent
letter I told you my estimates for the Northern Territory were 50.2 Labor and
49.8 for the Country Liberals. I should have made clear that counting had not
concluded when I wrote that letter.
Now that counting
is complete I tell you that my estimates are finalised at 50.5 and
49.5. Bearing in mind that Labor did not win a majority of the two-party
preferred vote in August 2001 (when it took office with a majority of the
seats) it is worth noting that Labor has only twice won a majority,
namely 59.1 per cent in 2005 and 50.5 per cent in 2008. So my estimate of the
swing against Labor is 8.6 per cent.
Cheers
Malcolm"
